WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Research Assistant (1998-2001), Florida Marine Research Institute
    • Performed trawl and visual dive surveys of nearshore and reef habitats to assist in developing an index of abundance of reef fish for the Fisheries Independent Monitoring Program.
    • Participated in life history studies of dolphin, Coryphaena hippurus, and snappers, Lutjanidae, in the Florida Keys.
    • Assisted with fisheries dependent monitoring of the spiny lobster commercial fishery in the Florida Keys.
    • Developed an estimate of the number of traps in the statewide stone crab fishery and verified the number of traps each fisherman possessed.
    • Tracked and surveyed nearshore and offshore tagged Queen conch aggregations with underwater visual surveys of Sonotronic tags.
  • Americorps Member (1997-1998), Biscayne National Park
    • Worked on a one year study of the circulation of water throughout Biscayne Bay.
    • Deployed, calibrated, maintained and downloaded data from Sontek acoustic doppler current profiler, Campbell Scientific weather station, and YSI 6000 water quality monitoring device.
  • Study Assistant (1995-1997), Bimini Biological Field Station, Bahamas

    • Assisted in support activities and record keeping of grants
    • Worked on longlining, tagging, releasing and tracking of lemon sharks.
